Bram Van Camp's String Quartet (2004) wins the 2nd prize on the International Composition Competition NEW NOTE in Croatia.
The first prize was not rewarded. Bram Van Camp shares the 2nd prize with the Japanese composer Shoichi Yabuta.
The jury’s motivation:
Both scores are remarkable for the imaginative conception and the quality of realization. After carefully scrutiny of 84 scores, the jury decided that although the standard was (quite)high, there was no work of outstanding originality that merited the first prize. There were however two very well crafted compositions that the jury found absolutely merited the second prize and performance by the Arditti quartet on October 6th 2014 in Samobor, Croatia. String Quartet, composed by the Belgian composer Bram Van Camp consist of three contrasting, interrelated movements. The composer explores the phenomenon of interaction and organic evolution of different polyphonic layers in an interesting way, inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven's work.
The String Quartet is performed by the Arditti Quartet and broadcasted on the Croatian television (HRT).
