III. Finale. Giocoso
In 2015 a manuscript with the original handwriting of Eugène Ysaÿe was donated to the Brussels Conservatory. The document contained the first drafts of the Sonatas for solo violin and other sketches. In this sketchbook, the so-called Lavergne manuscript, a brand new composition was also discovered, a Sonata in C major in three movements, of which the last one was unfinished.
Commissioned by Wibert Aerts I completed the third movement. The Finale. Giocoso starts with a vigourous theme and some variations, which gave me enough basis to compose several, whimsical variations in the virtuoso style of Ysaÿe.
After collaborating with Koenraad Sterckx, who made a critical edition of the manuscript, I integrated some ideas from Ysaÿe's sketchbook into my completion. This allowed the sonata to conclude with a few measures by its original master.
